AcuTech on the Global Stage: Driving Process Safety Forward

Over the past few months, AcuTech has been on an international journey, attending conferences globally to share our expertise, connect with industry professionals, and advocate for driving process safety advancements across critical sectors. From September to just before the publication of this blog, our team traveled to Colombia, Germany, Qatar, India, and various locations throughout the United States, participating in events and delivering thought-provoking presentations.

A primary focus of our presentations has been the growing hydrogen industry.

A primary focus of our presentations has been the growing
hydrogen industry.

We emphasized the urgent need to integrate robust Process Safety Management (PSM) practices to support its safe and sustainable development.

Here’s a snapshot of the key presentations delivered on this topic:

The Need for Risk and Reliability Data for the Hydrogen Industry

Presented at the Hydrogen Systems Risk & Reliability Workshop, University of Maryland
This presentation highlighted the need for better risk and reliability data sharing to ensure the hydrogen industry’s safety and reliability as it scales. Collaboration between academia, government, and industry was emphasized as a cornerstone for building trust and minimizing the impact of potential incidents.

Process Safety for Hydrogen Use in Energy Decarbonization

Presented at the 8th CCPS Global Summit in Mumbai, India; the 4th European Conference on Plant & Process Safety in Barcelona, Spain; and the P2SAC Fall 2024 Conference at Purdue University
Hydrogen’s role in energy decarbonization comes with significant safety challenges due to its rapid growth and novel applications. Our message focused on implementing a modern PSM framework across the hydrogen lifecycle to address these challenges and ensure a safer transition to hydrogen-based energy solutions.

In addition to hydrogen safety, we addressed other critical process safety topics, including functional safety, cybersecurity, and competency development:

Uncovering Hidden Risks: Identifying & Addressing Systematic Failures in Safety Systems

Presented at the 10th Latin American Conference on Process Safety, Barranquilla, Colombia
This presentation focused on identifying unseen dangers posed by systematic failures in safety systems and demonstrated how functional safety assessments can mitigate these risks.

Navigating the Intersection of Process Safety and Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Presented at the Qatar Process Safety Symposium, Doha, Qatar
We explored the convergence of process safety and cybersecurity, discussing strategies to address risks introduced by AI technologies. By integrating these disciplines, industrial facilities can better safeguard their operations against cyber threats while enhancing overall safety.

A Model for Winning Hearts and Minds to Enhance Process Safety

Presented at the 8th CCPS Global Summit in Mumbai, India
This presentation illustrated how process safety culture drives the effectiveness of PSM systems. We shared a model for fostering leadership and measurable actions to enhance safety performance across organizations.

Intentional Process Safety Competency Development

Presented at the 8th CCPS Global Summit in Mumbai, India
This poster presentation outlined how structured competency-building programs, including training and gap assessments, can empower personnel. Leadership involvement was highlighted as key to helping individuals in hazardous industries manage risks effectively and safely.

Outside of technical events, AcuTech is proud to support community initiatives such as the MPLX Annual Charity Golf Outing and the TPC Group Annual Charity Golf Tournament. These events support local organizations, making a positive impact in the communities where these companies operate and do business.
